Know Your Resources (All Grades)

    Classroom & Lunchroom Safety

    • Pack Lunches or Snacks: Packing is safest for young children. Use labeled, allergen-friendly containers or bento boxes. Always double-check labels.

    • Balance Nutrition: Include fruits, veggies, proteins, and gluten-free grains.

    • Classroom Parties & Events: Provide a box of safe, gluten-free goodies for parties. Talk with teachers about food-based projects and allergy safety.

    • Cross Contact: Teach no sharing of food, good handwashing, and always keep personal utensils and supplies. Wipe down desks and eating surfaces.

    • Safe Sensory Play: For little ones, ensure gluten-free craft materials are used.

    Must-Have Safety Habits

    • Read Labels Every Time—ingredients change!

    • Empower Kids to Advocate for themselves and say “no” if unsure.

    • Collaboration: Communicate with staff, teachers, and nurses.

    • Backup Snacks: Store extras with a teacher or the school nurse for birthdays, surprises, or field trips.

    Eating With Friends (All Ages)

    • Teach classmates and parents about gluten-free living and why avoiding cross-contact is important.

    • For potlucks or shared meals, suggest naturally gluten-free options: fruit kabobs, taco bars with corn tortillas, rice bowls, popcorn, or baked potatoes.
